The Palestine Main Street Program is proud to be one of the 85 communities participating in the Texas Main Street Program, an initiative by the Texas Historical Commission. This program is dedicated to the revitalization and preservation of historic downtown areas across Texas, fostering economic development and community pride.

The Texas Main Street Program is a comprehensive, preservation-based economic development initiative that encourages the revitalization of historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts. By leveraging local assets—such as cultural or architectural heritage, local enterprises, and community pride—the program aims to stimulate economic growth and enhance the quality of life for residents.

As a designated Texas Main Street community, Palestine benefits from a wealth of resources and support provided by the Texas Historical Commission. This includes access to professional consultation services in areas such as architecture, urban planning, economic development, and marketing.

Main Street America


Palestine is proud to be part of Main Street America, a movement dedicated to strengthening communities through preservation-based economic development. Main Street America supports the revitalization of historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts across the nation.

Main Street America is a program that empowers communities to create vibrant, thriving downtowns. By leveraging local assets such as historic buildings, cultural heritage, and community pride, the program fosters economic growth and enhances the quality of life.

Palestine’s Involvement
As a member of Main Street America, Palestine benefits from a wealth of resources and support. This includes professional consultation in areas like architecture, urban planning, and economic development. Our efforts focus on four key areas:

1. Organization: Building strong partnerships among local stakeholders.

2. Economic Vitality: Strengthening and diversifying the downtown economy.

3. Design: Enhancing the physical appearance of downtown through improvements and public spaces.

4. Promotion: Marketing downtown’s unique characteristics to attract residents, visitors, and investors.

Main Street America™ is a movement. Main Street America has been helping revitalize older and historic commercial districts for more than 35 years. It is the leading voice for preservation-based economic development and community revitalization across the country. Made up of small towns, mid-sized communities, and urban commercial districts, Main Street America represents the broad diversity that makes this country so unique. Working together, the programs that make up the Main Street America network help to breathe new life into the places people call home.

Main Street America is a mark of distinction. It is a seal, recognizing that participating programs, organizations, and communities are part of a national movement with a proven track record for celebrating community character, preserving local history, and generating impressive economic returns. Since 1980, over 2,000 communities have been part of Main Street, bringing renewed energy and activity to America’s downtowns and commercial districts, securing $61 billion in new investment creating more than 525,000 net new jobs and rehabilitating 251,000 buildings.

Main Street America is a time-tested strategy. Main Street America communities are encouraged to make use of a time-tested approach,
known as the Main Street Approach. The Main Street Approach is rooted in a commitment to broad-based community engagement, a holistic understanding of the factors that impact the quality of life in a community, and strategic focus on the core principles of downtown and neighborhood revitalization: Economic Vitality, Quality Design, Effective Promotion, and Sustainable Organization.

Palestine Main Street shares a collective vision for our community to experience and benefit from a culturally rich and economically vibrant downtown.

Mission

Main Street Palestine works to make Palestine’s downtown a vibrant and prosperous center of the community using the Main Street four-point approach of:

  • Providing opportunities and education for historically correct rehabilitation of our downtown buildings and structures (Design)
  • Working with stakeholders to develop partnerships and promote community involvement to build on successful revitalization, community activities and economic development efforts downtown (Organization)
  • Creating imaginative, fun and educational promotions to attract residents and visitors to downtown (Promotion)
  • Supporting new and existing businesses with funding and economic incentives that encourage development of downtown and enhance the local economy (Economic Restructuring)
