Ribbon Cutting at Upper Lake Trail.

The Rotary Club of Palestine kicked off 2024 with a community project of restoration and renovation of Upper Lake Trail. The project consists of the renovation of 1.7 miles of trails around Upper Lake. The trails had been kept up in the past by various clubs, including local Boy Scouts, but had fallen into disrepair in recent years. More than 25 Rotary members and volunteers converged on Upper Lake Trail Saturday, Jan. 13 and began clearing the trail of debris, cutting shoots on the path of the trail, tearing out old bridges and digging holes for new signage and benches. "We plan to fully renovate the trails,” Kimla said. “We are clearing a lot of brush and taking down trees that are making the trails unsafe, as well as rebuilding bridges and adding benches along the route. Our goal is to make it a family-friendly environment that is not only nature-based, but educational as well.”
