Experience the stunning stained glass, intricate detailing, and breathtaking architecture of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a historic gem in Palestine.
Originally built in 1874 as St. Joseph’s Church, the current Victorian Gothic-style structure was completed in 1893, designed by renowned architect Nicholas J. Clayton—also known for Bishop’s Palace in Galveston. Constructed with hand-molded bricks made on-site from Trinity River mud, the church features exquisite stained glass windows from Italy and France, intricate woodwork, and a Pilcher pipe organ installed in 1926.
Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, Sacred Heart remains one of the few churches of its kind in Texas. Whether you admire history, architecture, or faith, this extraordinary site is a must-see.
